found clean beauty company, 3 product review

Another “clean beauty” company for those on a budget is a company called found. Found “clean & natural” beauty products are sold through their website, and then, exclusively at Walmart stores. They have a mix of makeup, skincare, and hair care products. According to their website, they do not test on animals, and are free of parabens, SLS/SLES, phthalates, PEGs, and mineral oil. You can go to the found website about page to learn more about this company.

Walmart has also recently taken a pledge toward global sustainability by helping to eliminate waste and emissions, sell sustainable products and protect and restore nature – to learn more visit here. Prices of found beauty products range from $3 to $13 so it’s a very affordable and accessible brand through Walmart.

I picked up three products when on a local Walmart run.

California Poppy Face Lotion $13

From Company – A soothing moisturizer that comforts skin day and night. California Poppy calms skin while Beta Glucan hydrates and reveals younger looking skin. Fragrance-free.

First Impressions – It is a nice daily moisturizer for the face. It is light and absorbs well. I like it as a morning lotion as its not moisturizing for me at night. I have dry skin and do find this is nice to the morning to apply over my Vitamin C serum to give my face some hydration for the day. I was glad to see it is fragrance free as I am finding more and more that fragrances aggravate my skin.

Eschscholzia californica (California-poppy): Go Botany
Eschscholzia Californica Flower aka California Poppy

Ingredients – Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (moisturize and replenish skin), Glycerin (hydration), Eschscholzia Californica Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract (poppy) (antioxidant, may have anti-aging benefits, moisturizing), Beta-Glucan (derived from oats, skin soothing), Pichia/Resveratrol Ferment Extract (derived from red grapes/wine, helps protect skin’s surface and helps rebuff negative environmental influences, skin-calming properties that may help minimize the look of redness), Trametes Versicolor Extract (mushroom extract) (antioxidant which may help with aging skin), Cordyceps Sinensis Extract (antioxidant that may help with UV damage), Rosa Canina Fruit Oil (rosehip oil)(antioxidant), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (skin soothing), Allantoin, (from Chamomile flower, skin soothing and restoring), Xanthan Gum (natural thickening agent), Bisabolol (extracted from Chamomile flower, skin soothing, skin brightening), Pentylene Glycol (plant based texture enhancer and skin restoring properties), Tocopherol (Vitamin D)(antioxidant), Sodium Polyacrylate (versatile, synthetic polymer used as a film-forming agent, stabilizer, absorbent, thickening agent, and emollient), 4-t-Butylcyclohexanol (emollient and soothing agent, reduces redness), Ethylhexylglycerin (preservative), Butylene Glycol (texture enhancer), Potassium Sorbate (preservative), Alcohol (emollient, cleansing agent), Pentylene Glycol (texture enhancer, preservative), Sodium Citrate (antioxidant and preservative properties), Sodium Benzoate (preservative), 1,2-Hexanediol (preservative), Phenoxyethanol (preservative).

Overall Thoughts – It has nice moisturizing and beneficial skin ingredients. It is safe to use on all skin types. It does have some chemicals and preservatives at the end that some people may question as to whether it is “clean” product or not. Yet, water based lotions need preservatives and chemicals to make them to stay emulsified and free of bacteria. I think it is a good quality face lotion for a drug store brand at a great price.

Creamy Lip & Cheek Stick $11 (Apricot)

From Company – Experience this creamy lip and cheek color in one swipe to awaken a natural flush of color. This cream-to-powder Mango Butter formula blends in easily for beautifully buildable color. Explore this versatile formula that complements all skin tones.

Apply on lips or cheeks. Layer as needed.

First Impressions – It is a little hard, doesn’t glide as well as I like. It works well over an oil, balm, or lotion to blend. I was disappointing that it is also plastic. I usually go for lip crayons as to avoid plastic. This is not a pencil but actually a plastic applicator. Yet, I really really like the color!

Ingredients – RICINUS COMMUNIS (CASTOR) SEED OIL (vegetable derived emollient that can be kind of sticky), PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL (antioxidant, emollient), KAOLIN (natural clay mineral that can be drying), HEPTYL UNDECYLENATE (vegetable emollient), HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED WAX (antioxidant, moisturizing, rich in omega 3s), CANDELILLA CERA (plant derived thickening agent used in lipsticks), C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE (emollient, helps keep the active ingredients dispersed throughout a formula), OCTYLDODECANOL (mineral wax), SILICA (mineral that helps to distribute pigment and thicken texture in cosmetics), MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) SEED BUTTER (emollient), PRUNUS ARMENIACA (APRICOT) KERNEL OIL (emollient, skin soothing, antioxidant), CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) PEEL WAX (used in cosmetics to bind, absorb, and emulsify)(also used for fragrance), HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (used to stabilize cosmetics formulas), STEARALKONIUM HECTORITE (suspending agent), TOCOPHERYL ACETATE (Vitamin D) (antioxidant), SORBITAN TRISTEARATE (thickener), ISOPROPYL TITANIUM TRIISOSTEARATE (helps with stability and coating), POLYHYDROXYSTEARIC ACID (suspending agent), BIS-STEARYL DIMETHICONE (synthetic slipping agent, silicone), TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE (silicone, binding agent), PROPYLENE CARBONATE (texture enhancer), PHENOXYETHANOL (preservative), IRON OXIDES (coloring agents, pigments).

Overall Thoughts – So, I mean, you can see from the end of the list that it’s not really a “clean beauty” product. It has silicons and other chemical binding agents. But is it a good product? Yes, all the ingredients are safe and high quality. And it is certainly affordable. Albeit the plastic packaging then I would say it is good from an ingredient standpoint. I would like to see it glide a little bit better for use.

Exfoliating Lip Scrub $10

From Company – 99% Natural* – An effective lip scrub that reveals soft and smooth lips. Poppy Seed naturally sloughs off dry and flaky skin while Mango Seed Butter nourishes and protects skin from environmental stressors.

First Impressions – It feels nice on (soothing yes) but the scrubbing beads aren’t small enough to penetrate and remove dead skin from my lips. The container sticks too. The opening where it comes out is too small. It got clogged up and when I tried to squeeze it out then it popped open from the other side.

Ingredients – Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil (vegetable derived emollient that can be kind of sticky), Sucrose (hydrating), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil (moisturizing), Beeswax (texture enhancer), Theobroma Cacao (Cacao) Seed Butter (antioxidant, moisturizing), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter (moisturizing, great for dry skin), Papaver Somniferum Seed (poppy seed) (antioxidant, may have anti-aging benefits, moisturizing), Jojoba Esters (scrubbing agents), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil (emulsifier), Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter (antioxidant, emollient), Flavor (Aroma), Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Butter (antioxidant, moisturizing, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil (antioxidant, moisturizing), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil (antioxidant, moisturizing), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin D, antioxidant), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A) (A Retinol Ester) (anti-aging and evens skin tone), Glycerin (skin replenishing, skin restoring), Silica (mineral that helps to distribute pigment and thicken texture in cosmetics), Caprylyl Glycol (preservative), Caprylhydroxamic Acid (preservative), Tocopherol (Vitamin D).

Overall Thoughts – The ingredient list is great as far as natural and clean. I’d like to see better packaging/ dispensing of the scrub. Also, I would like more fine micro-beads for scrubbing.

Conclusion

I think, overall, that the products and ingredients are pretty good for the price. I wouldn’t think so much of it as a “clean” beauty company but as a good drug store variety for an affordable price. I would like to see Walmart have better recycling options for all their plastic beauty products. Nordstrom Department Stores now have plastic recycling drop-off bins for beauty products and Target has a recycling program. Walmart hasn’t set up anything yet with Terracycle but other companies have that you can take advantage of here…
