Activist Skincare, Sample kit and product reviews (precious oils serum and tinted mineral sunscreen)

Another company that I recently discovered in my clean beauty search was Activist Skincare. What sticks out about this company is their plastic-free options for skincare products. All their products either come in glass bottles or tins. There is some plastic in the spray pumps, but get this, all their products are refillable too. They use aluminum pouches to send refills for your empties. 5% of your purchase goes to environmental related causes.

And the products are affordable. They have a great sample pack that let’s you try most of their products. I registered on their website and got a 50% off offer to try the samples. I think I paid $34 to try 8 products! (The mineral tinted sunscreen was an add-on).

I already did a review on the cleansing products and then the treatments, this is a post on the Precious Oil Moisturizer and the tinted mineral sunscreen.

Moisturize and Protect

Precious Oils Active Infusion $64

From Company – Lightweight face oil with actives and botanicals to moisturize and nourish all skin types.

  • Gently scented with a hint of cucumber (no EOs).
  • Absorbs quickly with a dewy finish.
  • For all skin types, including oily or acne-prone.

Plant-based antioxidants prevent free radical damage and reduce redness and inflammation.

Coenzyme Q10 fights the visible signs of aging by stimulating skin’s natural healing processes.

Chamomile extract (bisabolol) minimizes sun spots and hyperpigmentation, plus provides natural antibacterial benefits (ideal for acne sufferers).

Grapeseed, avocado, and macadamia oils provide essential fatty acids for strengthening the skin’s natural barrier against dehydration and dryness, maintaining an optimal pH, and balancing excessive oil production.

First Impressions – It is a moisturizing oil that does absorb in and dry. It leaves the skin moist but not greasy. It does not have any strong scent or fragrance.

Activist Skincare Precious Oils Active Infusion

Ingredients – Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil (antioxidant and rich in Omega 3s) (doesn’t say if it is cold pressed or chemically derived), Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil (moisturizing), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (enhances skin restorative properties), Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed (Tamanu) Oil (skin soothing, hydrating), Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Extract (antioxidant, skin soothing), Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract (anti-aging, skin soothing), Punica Granatum Seed Oil (pomegranate) (may improve the appearance of wrinkled skin by soothing skin and inhibiting damaging environmental stressors), Tocopherol (Vitamin E) (anitoxidant), Astaxanthin (antioxidant), Lycopene (anitoxidant), Lutein (antioxidant), Alpha Lipoic Acid (antioxidant, can mimic the effects of other antioxidants, skin soothing), Beta Carotene (Member of the carotenoid family. Topically, beta-carotene is potentially a good antioxidant, although this benefit is dose dependent), Bisabolol (Alpha) (extracted from chamomile, antioxidant), Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10) (antioxidant that may have anti-aging properties).

Overall Thoughts – It is a nice fragrance free moisturizer for the skin. Because it is an oil base, and not water derived like a lotion, they do not need to use any preservatives. Lots of oil moisturizers contain essential oils and I really like that this product does not as essential oils can be irritating to your face due to the amount of fragrance and alcohol that they contain.

If this product also contained Bakuchiol oil, squalane, and hyaluronic acid then I would be in love.

Low-Waste Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 – $26

From Company – Made by Avasol, this SPF 30 reef-safe sunscreen is sourced from sustainable, effective ingredients that smell and feel amazing. It glides onto the skin effortlessly and blends imperfections.

In three semi-opaque shades that blend with a variety of skin tones. Packaged in a durable, resealable pouch that can refill a bottle or be used as-is.

Active ingredient: Zinc oxide 24.5% (USP, non-nano, non-coated).

First Impressions – I really like this product. It is a little heavy and use cautiously if you have oil skin as second ingredient is coconut oil. My skin is dry so I really like it. There are no white spots. It really is a great mineral sunscreen. I like the way it makes my skin look. I also love that is reef-safe.

Ingredients –  Active ingredient: Zinc oxide 24.5% (USP, non-nano, non-coated) (best mineral sunscreen).

Non-Active Ingredients – Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil (moisturizing with fatty acids and has 20% sun protection), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (moisturizing, restorative), Organic Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Oil (moisturizing, loaded with omaga 3s, works well in dry environments), Wildcrafted Euphorbia Cerifera (Calendilla) Wax (barrier protection, texture enhancer), Organic Calophyllum Inophyllum (Tamanu) Oil (hydrating), Organic Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil (anitoxidant and good source of vitamin D), Silica (mineral derived from clay and can be used as thickening agent in cosmetics), Wildcrafted Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuacu) Seed Butter (cacao butter) (antioxidant that contains polyphenols), Wildcrafted Mauritia Flexuosa (Buriti) Fruit Oil (Palm Oil) (antioxidant), Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) (moisturizing, improves dry skin), Rubus Idaeus (Red Raspberry) Seed Oil (antioxidant that can inhibit enzymes in skin that lead to signs of discolorations and loss of firmness), Organic Beeswax (thickening agent), Tocopherol (Vitamin E) (anitoxidant), Iron Oxides (coloring agent, pigment), Organic Fragrance (fragrance can be sensitizing to the skin), Propolis, Plankton Extract (moisture binding properties from algae), Mica (mineral that has shimmering properties in cosmetics), Wildcrafted Leptospermum Scoparium (Manuka) Oil (anitoxidant), Organic Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract (fragrance, plant extract, may have soothing effect on skin), Organic Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Leaf Oil (fragrance, plant extract, may be irritating to skin, may have antioxidant properties).

Low-Waste Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30

Overall Thoughts – this is an oil based moisturizer and therefore, does not contain any preservative or unnecessary chemicals. It is a little heavy with coconut oil so be cautious with oil or acne prone skin. I have dry skin. I really like the way this made me look. I went with the light-medium shade and was really happy with it. I like that it just has the zinc sunscreen as it is the least irritating sunscreen to my eyes. I can’t use chemical sunscreens on my face. I really like that it is refillable and comes in the aluminum pouch. Unlike plastic, aluminum in infinitely recyclable. I will definitely buy a full-size of this product.

Conclusion

I really like this company and what they are trying to do with these plastic-free and natural options to skin care. Don’t let the prices deceive you.  You can buy refills for a lot less and use your own container, you can buy their misfits which are products for 15% off that may have some slight imperfections on the packaging, 30% off subscriptions, and you can subscribe to their website and rewards program. I am getting deals from them every day! They also have an affiliate program that you can ask to join.
