Activist Skincare, the treatments reviews (including their Vitamin C Serum)

Activist Skincare is a company that I recently came across and discovered that they are mostly plastic free. Their products come in glass containers and they have aluminum pouch refills available. It’s a really cool company. 5% of every purchase goes to environmental related causes.

They have this sample kit available where you can try their products for a very reasonable price. I subscribed via email to their website and received a 50% off coupon for the trial kit. The trial kit has three cleansers, a hydration spray, a face oil, a hydration vitamin C treatment serum, and a Calming Force MSM treatment serum. I also got a sample of their tinted mineral sunscreen. All eight products to try were only $34 with the coupon.

I already did a post where I reviewed the three cleaners, and this post will focus on the treatments. I hope to do another post where I review the precious oil face moisturizer and the tinted mineral sunscreen. So stay tuned!

Panthenol softens and soothes irritation and inflammation for smooth, calm skin.

First Impressions – I recently did a post on Why Vitamin C is a GOOD thing to Add to your Morning Skin Care Routine and was very excited to try this serum. I love that it comes in a glass bottle and that I can get the refills. I use Vitamin C serum every morning so I like the idea of reducing plastic waste. It feels good going on – there is no noticeable scent and it feels moisturizing.

Brightening hydrating serum with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid for dull, dehydrated skin with sun spots and hyperpigmentation in sustainable, low waste / zero waste refillable bottles from Activist Skincare

Ingredients – Aqua (water), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (stable form of Vitamin C), Panthenol (Vitamin B5) (helps to lock in moisture), Saccharide Isomerate (helps to sooth and strengthen the skin barrier as well as lock-in moisture), Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) (skin restoring, skin replenishing, locks-in moisture), Glycerin (skin replenishing, skin restoring), Sodium PCA (skin-replenishing), Sodium Lactate (hydrating or buffering agent), Arginine (amino acid with antioxidant properties), Aspartic Acid (amino acid with antioxidant properties), Glycine (amino acid with skin replenishing properties), Alanine (amino acid with antioxidant properties), Serine (amino acid, skin replenishing, antioxidant), Valine (amino acid, antioxidant, skin-replenishing), Proline (amino acid, antioxidant, skin-replenishing), Threonine (amino acid, antioxidant, skin-replenishing), Isoleucine (amino acid, skin replenishing, antioxidant), Histidine (amino acid, antioxidant), Phenylalanine (amino acid, antioxidant, skin-replenishing), Sodium Levulinate (preservative), Sodium Salicylate (salt form of salicyclic acid without the exfoliating properties), Sodium Anisate (preservative), Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate (preservative).

Final Thoughts – This is a good hydrating serum that also may help prevent against environmental damage to your skin, help reduce wrinkles, and help strengthen your natural face protective barrier (Cobb, 2020). It would be nice if they gave the Vitamin C concentration. I use a vitamin C serum to decrease sun spots and damage.

Exfoliating C Superpowder

Note: Activist Skincare also has a Vitamin C powder available

Salicylic acid gently exfoliates inside pores to alleviate congestion.

Licorice root extract has a gentle brightening and soothing action to reduce redness and dark spots.

First Impressions – It feels really nice and soothing on the skin

Anti-acne serum for blemish prone skin, pimples, clogged pores, redness and inflammation in low waste / zero waste refill pouches from Activist Skincare

Ingredients –  Aqua (water), Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) (exfoliates and reduces inflammation), Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) (antioxidant), Panthenol (Vitamin B5) (antioxidant), Saccharide Isomerate (helps to sooth and strengthen the skin barrier as well as lock-in moisture), Salicylic Acid (chemical exfoliant), Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract (skin-soothing), Zinc Gluconate (preservative), Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) (locks-in moisture), Glycerin (skin replenishing, skin restoring), Sodium Levulinate (preservative), Sodium Anisate (preservative), Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate (preservative).

Final Thoughts – I think this would be a good choice for someone to try that has acne or other skin sensitivities. I feel as the MSM could work well for some people to help improve skin tone and the salicylic acid help to exfoliate (Shunatona, 2020). I also like that it has the hyaluronic acid to help restore moisture to the skin. And then the Niacinamide helps to reduce environmental damage and signs of aging.

Healing Water Toning Mist

Low waste refillable skincare in refill pouches from Activist Skincare

Ingredients – Aqua (water), Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Distillate (antioxidant), Calendula Offinalis Distillate (antioxidant, skin soothing), Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) Distillate (fragrance), Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) (exfoliates and reduces inflammation) , Panthenol (Vitamin B5) (antioxidant), Saccharide Isomerate (helps to sooth and strengthen the skin barrier as well as lock-in moisture), Citric Acid (pH stabilizer), Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract (skin-soothing), Glycerin (skin replenishing, skin restoring), Sodium Levulinate (preservative), Sodium Salicylate (salt from salicylic acid but not active form), Sodium Anisate (preservative), Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate (preservative), Sodium Hyaluronate (locks in moisture).

Final Thoughts – Wow, I didn’t realize this product was so action packed with powerhouse ingredients. It’s not really so much as a hydrating agent as it is a facial treatment. I guess I would just be careful using it with other facial products.

Conclusion

I really like this company and what they are trying to do with these plastic-free and natural options to skin care. Don’t let the prices deceive you.  You can buy refills for a lot less and use your own container, you can buy their misfits which are products for 15% off that may have some slight imperfections on the packaging, 30% off subscriptions, and you can subscribe to their website and rewards program. I am getting deals from them every day! They also have an affiliate program that you can ask to join.
