I grabbed a few items during a recent Walmart outing to see what I think…
From Company – Protect and moisturize all in one with the cleen beauty Mineral SPF 30 Face Moisturizer. Powerful zinc oxide helps protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays while shea butter moisturizes and conditions the skin. The SPF moisturizer is also formulated with sodium hyaluronate, which helps the skin stay hydrated by increasing its ability to lock in moisture. The unique formula rubs in to the skin leaving a dewy finish and no thick white residue behind. The Mineral SPF 30 Face Moisturizer dermatologist tested, cruelty free and vegan.
First Impression – This is a great mineral sunscreen. It does leave a slight white film typical of mineral based sunscreens but also blends overtime. I have dry skin but do not find this over-drying. I would think also safe for oily skin as it is not overly greasy or moist. For the price it’s pretty great actually. It doesn’t burn my eyes or cause any irritations. Really, it is a good basic face mineral sunscreen.
Ingredients – Zinc Oxide 12% Sunscreen, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Derived from coconut oil and glycerin, excellent emollient and skin-replenishing ingredient) Ethylhexyl Palmitate (texture enhancer/ conditioner), Butylene Glycol (texture enhancer), Glycerin (skin-replenishing), Polymethylsilsesquioxane (silicone/moisturizing), Dimethicone (silicone), Stearyl Alcohol (alcohol fatty acids/ moisturizing), Polymethylsilsesquioxane/Silica Crosspolymer (silicones/moisturizing), Glyceryl Stearate (thickener), Cetyl Alcohol (alcohol fatty acids/ thickener), PEG-100 Stearate (emulsifier), Isododecane (texture enhancer), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter/ moisture), Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E/antioxidant), Sodium Hyaluronate (moisture replenishing), Tocopherol (Vitamin E/ antioxidant), Polyhydroxystearic Acid (emulsifier), Polysilicone-11 (silicone/ moisture), Ethylhexylglycerin (silicone/ moisturizing), Isohexadecane (texture enhancer), Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate (emulsion stabilizer), Polysorbate 80 (surfactant /emulsifier), Phenoxyethanol (preservative), Disodium EDTA -prevents ingredients in a formula from binding with trace elements (mainly minerals) that can be present in water.
Overall Thoughts – Really, it’s a great mix of the mineral sunscreen with moisturizing ingredients. I like that is has the glycerin, silicone’s, shea butter, vitamin E, and hyaluronate. Those are really good moisturizing, protecting, and skin restoring ingredients. I do not see any fragrance or skin irritating ingredients. (Website does say it’s fragrance free.)
To say it’s “clean” might be up for debate. I mean with the silicone’s, preservatives, and some of the other emulsifiers, I can see where some people might object to the clean statement. But for a drugstore variety, I would say this is a better than average product for a great price. I would buy again to keep in my purse or beach bag for a quick sun-protection layer-up. I like the little easy to carry and apply squeeze tube too.
From Company – The innovative and invigorating cleen beauty™ Rosehip Jelly Face Cleanser is formulated with powerful ingredients that gently remove makeup, dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin. It is rich in rosehip oil and rose water to target skin tone and texture while hydrating and brightening as it gently cleanses. For an extra detoxifying kick, the cleanser is infused with vitamin rich bladderwrack seaweed extract known to help flush away the bad stuff and decongest pores. After using this bouncy pink jelly, the skin is left feeling squeaky clean. It’s a fun twist for loyal gel cleanser fans. The cleanser is made in the USA, dermatologist tested, cruelty-free, and vegan.
First Impression – I have to say that this is a really nice daily face cleansing gel. I have very dry skin and this does not over-strip my skin. I especially like using this with a cleansing balm or cleansing oil as part of a double cleanse. It says on the website for normal to oily skin which is funny because it does not say that on the bottle. I would say it’s good for all skin types. (My skin type is dry dry.)
Ingredients – Aqua (Water, Eau), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (mild cleansing agent/ surfactant), Sodium Coco-Sulfate (mild cleansing agent/ surfactant), Rosa (Rose) Damascena Flower Water (plant extract/ fragrance), Glycerin (skin replenishing), Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil (antioxidant), Coccina Indica Fruit Extract (antioxidant/ hydrating), Fucus Vesiculosus Extract (antioxident, skin soothing, skin replenishing), Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract (antioxidant), Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract (antioxidant), Corallina Officinalis (Bladderwrack Seaweed) Extract (antioxidant), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (skin soothing), Betaine (hydrating), Methyl Glucose Caprylate/Caprate (texture enhancer), Phenethyl Alcohol (preservative), Sodium Gluconate (skin softening), Cocamide MIPA (cleansing agent), Propanediol (absorption enhancer), Caprylhydroxamic Acid (preservative), Sodium Benzoate (preservative), Sodium Chloride (salt), Citric Acid (pH stabilizer), Potassium Sorbate (preservative), Geraniol (fragrance/ sensitizing), Citronellol (fragrance/ sensitizing).
Overall Thoughts – I think this is a very good ingredient list. This gel wash doesn’t have a strong scent to it so even though it has some fragrance listed, you don’t really smell it, so it’s probably not very much. Again, I think the “clean” statement is kind of silly but this is certainly a good drug store variety of a gel face wash.
From Company – The cleen beauty Vitamin C Papaya Glow Serum is highly concentrated for effectiveness, yet still lightweight enough for every day use. The water-like serum is formulated with Vitamin C, known to brighten and reduce the appearance of dark spots, and papaya for its natural exfoliating properties to help buff away dead skin cells. In addition, licorice root and ferulic acid are used to improve the skin’s natural glow. The serum is also infused with turmeric providing the deep orange hue. After use, skin will be left with a recharged glow. Vitamin C Papaya Glow Serum is dermatologist tested, cruelty free and vegan.
First Impression – Well, I did a whole post on Vitamin C serums and what to look for in products. The main problem with this is that is in a clear container that does not protect it from light. Also, the container is not air tight so you have to open it every time you apply it which exposes it to the the air. Light and air cause vitamin C products to oxidize and not be effective. Yet, this product uses the Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate vitamin C as the main active ingredient which is more stable.
When applying the serum it is slightly sticky but does go away if you apply a light moisturizer over it. And remember to add you sunscreen as the final step in a Vitamin C routine.
Ingredients – Aqua (Water, Eau), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Very Good and Stable form of Vitamin C), Glycerin (skin replenishing), Propanediol (absorption enhancer), Sodium Hyaluronate (moisture replenishing), Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract (average exfoliation and may be irritating to skin), Lactobacillus/Papaya Fruit Ferment Extract (macrobiotic – average exfoliation and may be irritating to skin) , Evodia Rutaecarpa Fruit Extract (good- skin soothing, comes from Asian tree and been scientifically proven in Chinese medicine to be beneficial to the skin), Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract (good – exfoliating), Ferulic Acid (excellent antioxidant and helps with absorption and functions of vitamin C in skin are products), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (antioxidant), Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract (very good plant based antioxidant in skin care), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract (very good plant based antioxidant in skin care), Morus Alba Leaf Extract (very good antioxidant and may help to calm inflammation and even skin tones), Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract (skin soothing plant extract), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract (very good plant based antioxidant in skin care), Pyrus Communis (Pear) Fruit Extract (skin-restoring), Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Fruit Extract (emollient), Allantoin (very good skin soother), Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract (antioxidant and fragrance), Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract (very good antioxidant), Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Extract (poor, fragrance and sensitizing), Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Fruit Extract (poor, fragrance and sensitizing) , Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Extract (poor, fragrance and sensitizing) , Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract (poor, fragrance and sensitizing), Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract (best, skin soothing, antioxidant), Tocopherol (good vitamin D, antioxidant and helps with Vitamin C benefits and absorption), Hydroxyethylcellulose (plant based texture enhancer), Xanthan Gum (natural thickening agent), Ethylhexylglycerin (preservative), Decyl Glucoside (cleansing agent), Sodium Nitrate (preservative), Lauryl Glucoside (surfactant), Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate (good plant based preservative), Polysorbate 60 (cleansing agent), Disodium Phosphate (texture enhancer), Sodium Phosphate (stable, water soluble form of Vitamin C, Phenoxyethanol (synthetic preservative), Citric Acid (pH stabilizer), Alcohol (sensitizing, drying, usually used an emulsifier and to help with Vitamin C penetration but overly drying and stripping to skin).
Overall thoughts – When I was first going threw this ingredient list I was pretty impressed but then when it started getting into all the citrus fruit peel extracts and all the surfactants (cleansing agents), I was like ewh, why? No wonder it feels so sticky on my skin. It has some really great acting ingredients though such as the Vitamin C and other antioxidants, natural exfoliating ingredients, and the hyaluronate (which draws and locks moisture into the skin). But I am not sure if than all the inactive ingredients are too irritating to the skin. Plus, the company does not give us the vitamin C percentage to know it’s vitamin C concentration. It says “highly concentrated” but why then doesn’t it give the percentage as other Vitamin C Serums disclose?
I probably would buy the sunscreen face moisturizer and the rosehip jelly face wash again. But I would not buy the Vitamin C serum again. I would like to try Cleen Beauty’s PHA Foaming Face Cleanser too as it is supposed to be best for dry skin (like mine) and also uses natural plant based chemical exfoliating ingredients which are supposed to better for your facial skin than using scrubs. The Avocado Hemp Butter Sleep Mask looks worth looking into as well. Overall, I would say that I am happy with the quality of these products for the price but would still examine individual ingredient lists before making any more purchases.
Have you tried any of Walmart’s Clean Beauty products? What is your favorite clean beauty brand?
